Many of us are hesitant to try our hand at decorating our homes. Some doubt their choice, while others feel that they are not creative enough. In this article, let us just focus on room decorating ideas for women. After all, it is us, who look after the house and make it presentable! First things first, you must know what kind of look you are going for. Do you want it cozy and warm, or bright and happy? You can also pick between a modernistic or a futuristic approach. This interior decoration principle works for any room, be it the living room, the kids' room, or your own bedroom. Decorating ideas do not have to come as an inspiration, you can read decoration magazines or take opinions. If a color scheme does not seem to work, then change it. All it needs is a little confidence and attitude. As a word of advice, do ask your partner what he/she would prefer, as it is as much his/her space as it is yours.
I remember walking into this expansive apartment which looked like an old English woman stayed there. It had floral prints and contrasting paint colors that were subdued yet not keeping up with the times. Everything in it from the furniture to the showpieces, went against the entire home's set up. The one thing that did stand out quite boldly and might I add, in my face - was a center table with a smooth finished solid (possibly marble) that had three dolphins bathed in seaform color, standing back-to-back while the table's flat top balanced on their snouts. It was hideous to say the least. They probably should have gone with something more subtle like woodwork and engraved dolphins, and not something out of Alice in Wonderland.
Lighting is another aspect which you can tweak in order to encompass the English cottage decorating ideas into your living room. Make sure that the light is faint and not overwhelming. It should bring out the softness in the room. Therefore, recessed and overhead lights are not a good option. Go for soft lamps and lighting fixtures to brighten the room like a chandelier or a lamp. You would easily find vintage lamps from an antique store or convert an old household item like a jug or vase into a table lamp.
