☀ The rooms look good only if there is sufficient empty space. So, it is advisable to buy furniture that can serve more than one purpose. For example, a sofa, which can be converted into a bed can be a good option.
Apart from the walls and the bed, one can even use polka-dotted laminates for their bedroom furniture. Keep the walls neutral, dot your wardrobe, and see how beautiful your room will look. Small elements like a small, polka-dotted upholstered couch in the corner, or near the window, is also something that will add that "jazzy" look to your room. There are a vast variety of polka-dotted cushions and pillow covers available today, that you can use, if you do not want to make the dots too obvious. Keep everything neutral, and just use dotted and stripped pillows, along with a few, brightly colored cushions and bolsters, and your room will look absolutely wonderful.
Handwoven stuff is a must to imbibe the true essence of cottage decor, that is, adding finishing touches to everything. An English setting is incomplete without the ritual of the afternoon tea. Therefore, make sure you hoard your kitchen cupboard with the finest English chinaware and crockery. Have a nice and plush garden and if you can, bring in some plants inside the rooms too.
Another way to play with light is to play with the actual light in the room, although this technique alters the feel of the room (and possibly its utility) more than you might want it to. For instance, a home office is usually bright, so make it dim instead―eliminate any room light (ceiling fixtures, etc.) and use small, strategically-placed reading lamps instead. Or go the other way in the living room―instead of a dim room for watching TV, make it bright by uncovering windows, and installing multiple light sources. The great thing about playing with light in this way is that it's easily reversible if you change your mind.
